HP and broadband phone service provider, engin, have partnered up to offer VoIP to the SMB market.
From November 1, HP dx business desktops and nx notebooks will be bundled with engin services. The package will include 100 free local or international calls over a three-month period.
Intel will construct the VoIP technology, which includes a built-in adaptor that allows users to make calls using a broadband Internet connection or a fixed phone line. The notebooks will also come pre-configured with an engin soft phone.
HP personal systems group marketing manager, Paul Robson, said the partnership would provide SMBs with enhanced productivity and make VoIP more easily accessible. He said it would also save resellers the task of implementing VoIP technology and claimed users would enjoy call savings of up to 75 per cent.
"It's a tri-party arrangement that broadens our channel reach," engin CEO, Ilkka Tales, said. "It is a great opportunity to work with HP partners and get them acquainted with engin services. Through this strategy we hope to get more involved with the channel."
Tales said resellers would have the opportunity to add value and differentiate from other PC products in the market.
"From an SMB perspective, they are offered cheaper call rates," Tales said. "As we bring out new services, we will work closely with HP to ensure they are brought into the market."
