The ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) has purchased a hosted mapping service to improve application development and access to local spatial data.
The solution, called the Mapping, Address and Routing System, is offered by location intelligence provider Geomatic Technologies as an in-house or hosted service and can be purchased based on individual components.
The authority will use the system's mapping and address segments (ACT MAS) to provide property verification for the ACT and the National Address Framework (NAF), postal address and A-spatial location verification, and spatial data layer querying for its local individual and business customers.
According to ACT MAS information services manager Ben Searle, the new system will be deployed as an in-house, Web-based service and will minimize errors, improve spatial data management and assist the authority's adherence to the NAF.
"Its standards-based approach will enable us to introduce and integrate advanced spatial functionality into our business systems, improve our land data management processes, and address accuracy which will provide considerable benefits to our customers," Searle said.
"The service will support a range of business functions for all ACT government agencies to increase efficiencies, reduce data errors and fraud."
The Victorian Spatial Smart Tag, designed by the Victorian state government and Geomatic Technologies, will be integrated into the system to allow non-technical access to the system, while the AusIndustry Regulation Reduction Incentive Fund will support the project to minimize "red tape" for ACTPLA clients.
A Geomatic Technologies spokesperson said the system is expected to be deployed mid-2007 as part of a wider project.
