Crook server brings down Westpac's Internet banking

A server malfunction has brought down Westpac’s online banking service

Westpac's Internet banking service has been offline for most of Monday morning.

According to a Westpac service representative, the downtime was caused by a server failure and has been out of action since 9am AEST. He did not state whether it was hardware or software related.

Customers who log in to the online banking system are met with a company announcement saying that Internet banking is unavailable. It directs customers to use its telephone banking service instead.

According to the customer representative, no timeframe for repair has been set. He said, customers seeking to connect to Westpac's banking system should retry logging into the site in 20-30 minute intervals.
