Netspace signs $1.2m contract with Nexgen

New network aims to supply customers with fewer points of failure

Melbourne-based ISP, Netspace, has beefed up its network capabilities through a $1.2 million partnership with NexGen Networks.

Under the two-year contract, NexGen will supply a national data backbone to a point of international transit, which will be based in Sydney.

Netspace regulatory affairs manager, Ben Dunscombe, said customers would have access to a more robust network and experience far fewer points of failure.

"We've moved to a national network. Nexgen had the right infrastructure and from a commercial perspective they had the best offering," he said.

The new network access would also allow Netspace to add more bandwidth in a much more efficient manner, Dunscombe said.

The new national network would replace a localised IP model where transit was purchased in each state in isolation of others.

Dunscombe said it decided to purchase all of its international bandwidth in Sydney to access to better pricing.

"Sydney tends to be the cheapest place in Australia to buy bandwidth because that is where most of the international links come in," he said.

The partnership follows Netspace's recent deal with Netgear to supply ADSL/ADSL2/2+ modems for the consumer market.
