iWorld gets Bak2u

Anti-theft security software will be bundled with upcoming Apple iPhone accessories

Multimedia accessories distributor, iWorld, has entered the security market via an exclusive deal with Singapore-based software security vendor, Bak2u.

iWorld will be distributing the vendor's anti-theft software portfolio including Verey I, PhoneBak and PhoneBakPDA. Verey 1 is specifically designed to use with Mac notebooks. It utilises the built-in camera to take pictures of the thief and records their IP address. The information is then sent to a predetermined email address.

PhoneBak scans the SIM card and if it is not authorised, sends an SMS to a predetermined mobile number with the thief's phone details, the choice of carrier and the SIM serial number. iWorld managing director, Chad DeClase, said the security products would diversify its range and help it to gear up for the upcoming launch of Apple iPhone.

"End-users will adapt to it quite quickly because it's going to be a key issue to have anti-theft software on mobile devices," he said. "We have been looking at getting into the security software. This gives us access to more lifestyle products."

DeClase said he would be interested in bundling Bak2u with Apple iPhone accessories, which would be launched toward the last quarter of the year.

"It's an inexpensive way to securely protect electronic devices - especially when it comes to not losing irreplaceable information," DeClase said.
