Motorola to demo small office WiMax gear

Motorola to demonstrate WiMax device capable of VoIP

Motorola said it will demonstrate a desktop WiMax device focused on consumers and small office users at WiMax World in Chicago this week . The device will be sold to various carriers the Northern autumn for eventual resale.

Called the CPEi 300 Series, the hardware features a data port and two analog terminal adapters so users can plug in an analog phone for voice over IP service, Motorola said in a statement. Pricing was not announced, but a Motorola official called it an entry-level, reduced cost device for fixed wireless broadband connections to voice, data and video.

The CPEi 300 Series complies with the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard for mobile WiMax, but Motorola also said it realizes that carriers will want to deliver a fast connection for fixed applications. The product will be delivered to the WiMax Forum for certification, Motorola said.
