HSBC standardises net infrastructure

HSBC is chasing cost and network management efficiencies in standardising its network infrastructure across a common Cisco platform.

In a three-year deal, Dimension Data will supply the banking company with Cisco technology and associated services in a single point of management for the procurement, installation and support of Cisco gear across HSBC's operations in 78 countries and territories.

Paul Ries, global services manager of Primer at Dimension Data Australia, said it is too early to tell how much the contract, which will be administered under the umbrella of Dimension Data's Global Services Operating Architecture (GSOA) methodology, will be worth to its Australian operations.

The project will be coordinated from the UK and rolled out regionally. The vendor's GSOA methodology covers design, procurement, implementation and project management services in its Primer division, and Uptime, which provides technical support.

"The creation of a common global infrastructure presents businesses with significant design and operational challenges," said Bruce Watson, executive chairman of Dimension Data UK and Europe.
