Interestingly the number of people that aren't attracted to VoIP has also increased, jumping from 26% to 29% since the survey's 2006 edition. But despite this, making phone calls over the Internet was the most popular activity people would like to be able to use their broadband connection for but haven't yet been able to.
In terms of respondent demographics, the largest job sector respondents listed as coming from was student (12.3%) followed by IT support (10.1%), IT developer (9.2%), IT manager (6.8%) and IT admin (6.7%).
The majority of respondents have two or three computers and two or three users sharing the broadband connection. Almost 70% share that connection via a wired and wireless network.
Fast downloads (86.4%), fast web surfing (84.2%), always-on web access (81.1%), sharing with multiple computers (62.2%), always-on email (61.4%) and Peer-to-Peer file sharing (53.4%) were the most common usage models of the broadband connection.
On the ISP front, Westnet, Adam and Exetel kept customers waiting as little time as possible over the phone before connecting them to the right person, while AAPT, Optus and Netspace performed poorly in this area.
Despite their tardy telephone habits, Westnet along with Internode, Adam, iiNet, aaNet and Netspace each boasted more than 60% of customer service ratings in the good or excellent category.
Telstra cable and DSL, Optus cable and DSL, TPG, Exetel, and AAPT all suffered more than 40% below average or awful customer service ratings.
