NetWorld+Interop - WorldCom forges ahead

Despite replacing its CEO and continued battering on Wall Street, WorldCom Inc. Tuesday announced that its expanding its managed security services.

The beleaguered carrier inked a deal with Internet Security Systems here at NetWorld+Interop 2002 Las Vegas. ISS is now providing managed intrusion detection, antivirus and emergency response services to WorldCom customers.

The new offerings include ISS Managed Network Protection Service, Intrusion Event Monitoring, Managed Server Protection, Managed Remote Scanning, Managed Anti-Virus, Managed Web Filtering and Managed Emergency Response Services.

The services range from US$200 per month for event monitoring up to $2,000 per month for the ISS Managed Network Protection Service.

While ISS is actually managing and monitoring these services behind the scenes, WorldCom is a customer's first point of contact. WorldCom then goes through a diagnostic process and determines if ISS needs to be brought in if a problem arises.

ISS manages its security offerings from six network operating centers around the world. There are centers in Brazil, Tokyo, Sweden, Italy and two are in North America.

WorldCom is adding the ISS services to its existing security offerings, which include the carrier's Managed Firewall Service, its suite of managed VPN services and security consulting offerings.

The ISS services are available to WorldCom customers that purchase their services in North America. The additional security offerings will become available to customers around the globe in the second half of this year.
