PowerBook owners wanting to beef up their system with more storage capacity may want to check out a new high capacity 2.5 inch 60 GB 5400 rpm hard disk drive from Trans Intl. It lets you maximize the internal storage capacity of PB systems at up to 60 GB at the "fastest possible data transfer rate an internal 2.5 inch drive can deliver," according to the folks at Trans Intl.
And how fast is that? The new drive, which costs US$479, purportedly delivers media transfer rates of up to 262 Mbps per second. Trans Intl also said that the drive doesn't consume any additional power compared to its predecessors, but does provide 25 percent more capacity. The low power consumption is enabled on the drive by Adaptive Battery Life Extender (ABLE) technology.
The drive mechanism replaces the ball bearing design traditionally found in hard drives with a dynamic bearing spindle motor technology that makes it a quieter drive than its predecessors during read/write operations, according to Trans Intl.
The 60 GB 5400 rpm drive is also available as an external FireWire portable unit featuring a sustained data transfer rate of 20-35 MB/s that's enabled by an OXFORD 911 FireWire to IDE bridge chip.
