Delegates surveyed at the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT 2002) are optimistic about the year ahead believing there will be more business opportunities this year compared to 2001.
The key indicators that people used to back their view that business would be better in 2002 were: government moves to encourage IT developments (42 per cent); the post-September 11 focus on specific ICT infrastructure enhancements (40 per cent); and an increase in IT infrastructure investments (37 per cent).
The mix of local and overseas business leaders, government and academia who took part in the online poll saw the main technological drivers over the next five years as: wireless and mobile (70 per cent), broadband (64 per cent) and e-payment systems (48 per cent).
Releasing results of the poll, Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) executive director Rob Durie said it is interesting that poll respondents did not base their outlook on perceived changes in the stockmarket or interest rate levels.
