CEBIT - NetApp to sell Webwasher.com Net filter

Network Appliance Inc. (NetApp), the Sunnyvale, California-based specialist in network storage products, has agreed to resell Internet content filtering software made by Webwasher.com AG of Paderborn, Germany, the two companies announced here Tuesday.

Webwasher.com's DynaBLocator filtering product will be integrated with NetApp's NetCache appliance, with shipments beginning worldwide immediately, said John Martin, NetApp's chief technology officer for Europe. He did not provide any pricing information for the products.

DynaBLocator taps into a database of URLs (Uniform Resource Locators) to be filtered, which is automatically updated without requiring user down time. The product is of particular appeal to European-based companies, since it includes a list of URLs in the German-speaking countries as well as English-language sites.

"WebWasher.com, being a fairly fast-moving company, was able to act quickly and respond to our customer demands in a fairly positive way," Martin said, noting that two financial institutions, Germany's HypoVereinsBank AG and Switzerland's UBS AG, have already purchased the joint product.

The joint sales agreement is targeting "high-end" corporate customers with more than 100 users each, said Horst Joepen, president and CEO of the German company.
