The Victorian roads authority, VicRoads, has admitted it sells personal information to 190 outside organisations, but has refused to name any of its customers.
The Herald Sun yesterday published the details of a secret deal, whereby companies such as Connex and Yarra Trams paid for special access to information from the VicRoads licence database.
And VicRoads today confirmed it was selling information to 187 other organisations. The authority offered no reason as to why the information should not be made public.
A VicRoads spokesperson did tell the newspaper that access to these records is legal under laws such as the Road Safety Act, and that access to the information is provided under a confidentiality agreement.
