Gmail to offer real-time language translation

Translate a message in the cloud

Google has announced it will launch real-time language translation in Gmail this week.

During a keynote address at the CeBit conference and exhibition in Sydney today, Google's product management director Matthew Glotzbach made the announcement, saying the integration should be available by tomorrow.

The new Gmail capability allows users to translate a foreign language e-mail in their inbox with one click.

Google has previously hinted at a translation service for Gmail.

Speaking about the benefits of cloud computing to the enterprise, Glotzbach touted the additional capabilities of cloud systems.

"Gone are the days when moving something to the web means losing functionality," he said. "Cloud computing is no longer an 'if' but a 'when' and when is now."
