Vodafone device improves 3G signal in the home

Access Gateway routes calls over broadband

Vodafone is making a device designed to improve mobile signal in the home available to consumers in the UK.

The Access Gateway is a tiny box which routes voice calls made from mobile phones across a home broadband connection, rather than the cellular network. Vodafone claims the device, which can support four calls at any time, improves the strength of calls and is ideal for anyone that experiences poor mobile phone signal in the home.

Ian Shepherd, consumer director of Vodafone UK, said: "The Vodafone Access Gateway will boost indoor mobile phone coverage for customers who today, find they need to move around the rooms in their home to get a consistent signal strength".

The Access Gateway will be available from July 1 and is expected to cost £160, although it can be bundled in an existing contract for a further £15 per month.
