Online Growth Solutions acquires MD Web Hosting

Edges out MelbourneIT for the controlling share in Australian domain names

Online Growth Solutions Limited (OGS) has announced the addition of MD Web Hosting to its portfolio of companies. The acquisition will see OGS edge out MelbourneIT for the controlling share in Australian domain names, with more than 23 per cent under management.

It already has domain name and hosting providers Netregistry, PlanetDomain, and Hostess.

OGS cheif Larry Bloch said that earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the group had grown by 40 per cent over the 2009 financial year and attributes the growth in strained economic circumstances to OGS’ value-based approach to service provision.

“Some of our competitors are finding the going tough as the market seeks providers that offer true value,” Bloch said.

“We’re seeing a strong drift of customers from competitors who overcharge and under deliver, further validating our business model.”

Melbourne IT’s prices begin at about $140 for a two-year .com.au domain, while Netregistry offers the same extension and duration from $45.

Bloch said that OGS plans to consolidate its services by transferring MD’s off-shore outsourced IT and customer support roles to its Sydney office.

“Once complete, customers will only ever deal with Australian-based operators,” Bloch said.

OGS is now seeking further acquisitions, gunning for Melbourne IT’s crown in Australian web hosting market.
