Virgin launches mobile Wi-Fi modem

Virgin Mobile launches Australia's first mobile broadband WiFi modem

Virgin Mobile has launched a new Wi-Fi modem, which lets users create mobile broadband networks.

Claiming the title of first in Australia, the Virgin Mobile WiFi Modem is manufactured by Huawei and has a range of 15 metres with a Micro SD card slot that supports up to 32GB of memory.

The modem sends out a signal allowing up to three users to simultaneously connect to the internet, using the Optus 3G network.

Earlier this year, competing vendor Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) signalled the growth in Australia's mobile broadband market, announcing that its mobile broadband services account for a third of the average revenue per user.

Virgin Mobile WiFi Modem pre-paid starter packs are available exclusively from Dick Smiths this month for $199. The packages include a modem and, for a limited time,1GB of data. From December, it will be available from all major retailers.
