Tasmania-based Aurora Energy is looking for contractors to join a panel to help roll out fibre optic network extensions as the state leads the way in the construction of the National Broadband Network (NBN).
In a call for expressions of interest (EOI) Aurora said it is "seeking suitably qualified contractors to be appointed to a pre-qualified panel for the construction and commissioning of optical fibre network extensions that comply with the Aurora Telecommunications Group Design and Construction Standard, Aurora Energy Network Standards, other relevant Australian Standards and industry best practice".
Aurora is a joint partner in NBN Tasmania, the subsidiary of NBN Co that is responsible for overseeing the network construction in Tasmania. An Aurora spokesperson did not return requests for comment as to whether contractors would be working on the NBN construction by time of publication
The EOI documents also state contractors should have skills in: Network design; underground construction; overhead construction; fibre splicing and testing; and "installation of Aurora Energy assets into existing Telstra and others' infrastructure".
The EOI process closed today (November 2).
Earlier in October, the second stage of the NBN rollout in Tasmania was announced with the addition of seven locations across the state. The locations include Sorell, Deloraine, George Town, St Helens, Triabunna, Kingston Beach and South Hobart. These will add to existing locations Smithton, Scottsdale and Midway Point.
The second stage of the Tasmanian leg of the NBN also includes the completion of optic fibre transmission links on Tasmania’s east coast to Kingston and to a new industrial hub being developed at Westbury.
