The week in storage: Part 1

Last week was quiet in storage other than a few announcements from Emulex, Data Robotics and Rackspace.

Emulex on Tuesday announced that its OneConnect Universal Converged Network adapters are now available. The OneConnect adapters replace Gigabit Ethernet adapters in servers and offer TCP offload. They feature optional iSCSI and Fibre Channel over Ethernet connectivity via a license key, which administrators can turn on when they want FCoE or iSCSI capability.

Data Robotics announced that it has received $10 million in funding from Focus Ventures, Greylock Partners, New Enterprise Associates, RRE Ventures and Sutter Hill Ventures. The company will use the investment for R&D and sales and marketing activities.

Realizing that protecting your data in the cloud is key, Rackspace Hosting on Thursday rolled out several new services for network-attached storage and storage-area network users. The company's dSAN is scalable storage based on Dell EMC CX4-120, CX4-240, CX4-480 and CX4-960 arrays that is intended for users of databases and transaction-intensive applications. DSAN supports a useable capacity of 951TB. DNAS is Rackspace Hosting's NAS solution for media rich applications and file level storage. DNAS is built on NetApp filers and can support as much as 37TB of useable storage capacity. In addition, dNAS supports Windows and Linux file servers. The company also recently launched a Disaster Recovery Services portfolio which includes host-based replication from data center to data center. The offering also includes failover for dNAS services and uses NetApp's SnapMirror technology.
