Telstra tweaks SMB mobile broadband plans

Telco to up data allowances on some plans starting January 21

A week after Telstra (ASX:TLS) increased the data allowances across its range of wireless broadband plans the telco has announced similar improvements for small and medium businesses.

Commencing January 21, Telstra's SMB customers will have access to double the data allowance on some subscription plans, access to casual plans with no lock in contract starting at $5 per month, and a newer higher usage plan of 120GB.

Its existing top higher usage plan comes in at $600 a month for 100GB.

The telco is also offering its 'elite' devices for free on some 24-month contracts and said its data allowance on the $39 standard plan – currently 400MB – will be "seven times more data than previously".

Telstra did not elaborate on which plans would be changed as part of the moves and its website displays a notice that says: "Please Note: New Telstra Mobile Broadband plans for business will be available from 'Thursday 21st of January 2010'."

In a statement the company added it would be partnering with Acer to offer three laptop or notebook mobile broadband bundles from February 9.

Telstra’s plans are notoriously more expensive than its competitors’ wireless broadband plans, but the telco boasts Australia’s fastest and largest network.
