The Northern Territory Government has signed Amcon (ASX:AMM) to extend its existing Darwin and Alice Springs fibre networks to provide data carriage services to the Territory’s agencies and schools.
The deal, initially worth $20 million over five years, will see Amcom establish a Darwin office in order to service the contract as well as pursue additional business in the Territory.
Amcom CEO Clive Stein said in an ASX statement that the deal was a beachhead for the company which would allow it to capture further organic opportunities in Darwin and Alice Springs.
“The additional fibre optic infrastructure to be installed in Darwin and Alice Springs will enable us to leverage other commercial opportunities and introduce new data products for business customers, who to date have had limited access to high-speed fibre services”, he said.
Diamond Communications, a subsidiary of Ausdrill, has been appointed as lead contractor for the project to expand Amcom’s existing Darwin infrastructure.
