Domino's Pizza has recorded a big sales increase on the back of its iPhone application launch.

The iPhone has proved a boon for at least one fast food outlet, with Domino’s Pizza (ASX:DMP) reporting it experienced over $2 million in sales in the 12 weeks following the November launch of its iPhone ordering app.

Detailing the success in its first half 2010 results, the company said it had also experienced growth in online PC sales which now accounted for 28 per cent of all sales in Australia.

In a shareholder presentation, the company said that growth in online/digital sales had strongly contributed to a 39.2 per cent year on year increase in net profit after tax to $8.7m.

In an ASX-statement the CEO Don Meij said the successful launch of the Domino’s iPhone application, and the introduction of oven baked sandwiches, had resulted in same store sales growth of 4.57 per cent.

“We have seen significant results in our online and digital platform parts of the business,” he said. “In Australia, our iPhone application has now achieved more than $2 million in sales and more than 200,000 downloads since its launch three months ago, and our online ordering exceeds 28 per cent of sales in Australia.”

In the Netherlands, Domino's online ordering had increased to more than 34 per cent of all orders. In France, where online ordering was introduced in 2009, online orders accounted for 10 per cent of sales.
