Veteran public servant Colin Lyons to hang up the boots at the end of February

One of the key public servants involved in developing the National Broadband Network (NBN) plan will retire at the end of February.

Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy deputy secretary Colin Lyons, who has been responsible for the implementation of the NBN, will hang up the boots after almost three decades.

In a statement, communications minister, Stephen Conroy praised Lyons for his efforts.

"Col has been a very valued member of the Department's Executive for a long time and has played a key role in developing the National Broadband Network," Conroy said.

"He is highly regarded within the Australian Public Service and I would like to thank Col for his time and efforts in the Department. His experience and knowledge has been greatly valued."

Lyons will be replaced by Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry deputy secretary, Daryl Quinlivan.
