Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC) has appointed Dr Kanagasingam Yogesan as its new research director.

Yogesan, formerly of eye care organisation, the Lions Eye Institute, will lead the organisation to help develop low-cost, non-invasive diagnostic imaging technologies for the early detection of conditions.

The AEHRC is a joint venture between the CSIRO and the Queensland Government aimed at using ICT to improve health services.

According to Yogesan, the technology-driven transformation of healthcare delivery is changing the way professional practise medicine.

“Telemedicine and e-health technologies are the only way we can provide high quality care to everyone as healthcare costs rise, the population grows and increasing numbers of us are living longer,” he said in a statement.

Yogesan will be based at the CSIRO’s Floreat site in Perth.
