The Family Court of Australia has moved to address its expanding data storage needs with the impending roll out of additional capacity to its Court backup system.
The Court will initially replace of an existing tape library to bolster current backup capacity and storage performances, then look to deploy a second tape library within the next year or so to replace the remainder of its production tape library.
According to FCA documents, the Court uses a range of OSes and the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) backup tool to facilitate backups and restores.
The Court said the replacement tape library would likely be initially connected to an Intel based SuSE Linux Enterprise Server server running IBM’s Tivoli Storage Manager via Fibre Channel connectors and a Fibre Channel Fabric switch.
Alternatively, the unit could be initially assigned to an IBM P Series system running AIX and TSM via Fibre Channel connectors and a Fibre Channel Fabric switch.
The ability to expand the backup system is a major consideration, with the Court budgeting in the capability to expand at least 50 per cent over its current storage requirement of 100 data tape cartridges and a minimum and six LTO4 drives.
