Centrelink to set up ITIL training panel

Will ramp up Foundation in IT Service Management and the Intermediate Service Capability Module skills

Centrelink has flagged it will ramp up the use of IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), with the setting up of an ITIL V3 Qualification Scheme Panel of Training Providers.

The three-year panel will provide training in key ITIL qualifications including those related to Foundation in IT Service Management and the Intermediate Service Capability Module.

In Centrelink documents the agency said it expected the panel would ensure Centrelink had the ability to schedule cost effective training utilising a range of providers and venue options.

“IT Learning has identified the delivery of training in the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Qualification Scheme as an ongoing service requirement,” the documents read.

Centrelink said it expected that over a six-month period, around 137 staff would be trained in ITIL Foundation, and around 56 staff to be trained across four components of the ITIL V3 Intermediate Service Capability Module.

The agency added that the training would be available to other agencies with the Department of Human Services portfolio -- Australian Hearing, CRS Australia and Medicare Australia.

Centrelink added that all providers would be training organisation accredited by an accredited ITIL Examination Institution to provide ITIL training programs.

Earlier this month the agency also said it would roll out an 802.11n WLAN at 389 of its offices within six months of awarding the tender to help with chronic long queues and enable more flexible service offerings.
