Old Parliament House to up security

New CCTV and DVR gear as the historic site goes from analogue to digital

Old Parliament House is to rip and replace its closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras and digital video recording (DVR) system in a bid to up security at the site and move from an analogue to an IP-based security system.

The site, now home to the Museum of Australian Democracy, presently uses a hybrid CCTV system consisting of DVRs, monitors and a mixture of approximately 32 fixed and Pan, Tilt, and Zoom (PTZ) cameras.

The system will cover designated areas within and along the perimeter of the facility.

According to OPH documents, the existing system will be upgraded to a fully Digital Video Management System and will see the replacement of almost all existing cameras with high definition and / or megapixel cameras.

“The project is preferably looking at a complete IP based camera solution, but will consider alternative options if deemed to be the most suitable for the project,” the documents read.

Current camera numbers will also be increased significantly to improve internal and external surveillance.

The OPH added that key requirements of the new systems were that it be easily upgradable and expandable and facilitate additional cameras and increased storage.
