Fujitsu scores $15 million business analytics deal with WA police

WA Police continues IT strategy revamp with third Fujitsu deal over a decade

Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand has signed a three-year contract with the Western Australia Police to provide business analytics.

The $15 million contract, which can be extended to a total of five years, will see Fujitsu help to restructure the department's IT strategy through business analytics and change management. The contract was signed after an "intensive bidding process".

"Fujitsu’s services provide WA Police with the capability to scale up and down on demand and in alignment with our needs," WA Police superintendent, Bill Leonard, said in a statement.

WA Police represents one of the largest police jurisdictions in the world, with an area covering 2.5 million square kilometres across three regions, 14 districts and 162 police stations. It has some 9000 staff.

The contract is the latest in a series of projects conducted between WA Police and Fujitsu. Previous projects included a $58 million replacement of the department's analogue voice radio network in 2003, and a web-based mobile search facility for highway patrol officers implemented in 2004.

The $15 million deal with Fujitsu overshadows a $5 million contract WA Police signed with IT consulting services firm Empired earlier this year for similar strategic advice and planning services.
