Tyco chooses Telstra in multimillion dollar telecommunications deal

Tyco International has signed Telstra to a three-year $45 million to provide telecommunications services to its Australian operations.

Telstra will provide a range of services, including fixed voice, data and mobile services, to all Tyco's Australian operations, other than its healthcare group.

A spokesperson for Tyco said healthcare was not included in the contract as the group had recently signed its own contract for the provision of telecommunications services.

Tyco Services managing director, Glenn Wallace said telecommunications was no longer a business overhead to be minimised, but a key tool in delivering a high level of service to customers.

"Telstra provided an end-to-end service offer with a commercial proposal that will save Tyco millions in recurring expenditure. Tyco already has an existing relationship with Telstra and provides a large amount of reciprocal business. This contract certainly cements the partnership."

Telstra Mobile managing director of business sales, Murray Bergin, said the mobiles component of the contract involved Telstra winning 2200 of a total fleet of 3600 services back from a competitor. Previously, Optus looked after these services.

Tyco is a $3 billion company in Australia operating in services, flow control, electronics and healthcare.
