Vodafone and 3 mobile announce iPad Wi-Fi plans

Early adopters of the iPad will find the device supported by local networks Vodafone and 3G

Vodafone and 3 Mobile have announced dedicated pre-paid and monthly data plans for the iPad with Wi-Fi and third generation (3G) networks in Australia.

The services will start on 28 May, meaning that early adopters planning to buy the iPad when it's released in Australia will no longer have to worry that the device will go unsupported by local service providers.

Vodafone's pre-paid plans will range from $9.95 for 250 MB to unlimited usage at $49.95. Meanwhile, 3 Mobile's plans range from $15 for 500MB to $29 for 2GB.

The operator will also be offering its customers single-use extra downloads for a limited period of time, including a 200MB one-time bonus when the plan is activated online and 1GB to 2GB extra downloads for signing up. The iPad 3G plans will all include a free micro SIM starter pack.

While the iPad is gaining considerable support from the spending public in numerous ways, the device still has a few Wi-Fi connection problems. Consumer support group, Australian Communication Consumer Action Network (ACCAN), has advised iPad users to purchase pre-paid plans to avoid unseen charges.
