Sydney Water names new CIO (updated)

Chris Ford joins as chief information officer, following the departure of Tim Catley

Sydney Water has appointed Chris Ford as its new chief information officer, following the departure of Tim Catley in June, 2010.

Ford, who will begin at Sydney Water in mid September, was previously information technology director and CIO for Nottingham City Council. He also spent 12 years with Severn Trent Water in several IT roles.

"Chris Ford was nominated during the search process and he was found to be the best candidate for the job," a Sydney Water spokesperson said about the overseas appointment.

Catley left Sydney Water to take up a position with APN News & Media. The role is a return to his media background — he was previously group IT manager for Nationwide News.

Sydney Water managing director, Kerry Schott, confirmed Ford’s appointment in a statement, welcoming him to the role.

Ford describes himself a “highly competent and experienced UK top 100 information systems director and executive team member with a proven track record of delivery in both private and government organisations.”

Trent Brown, who acted as CIO during the selection process, will return to his job as Manager Strategy and Architecture.
