Network Associates names new president, shuffles execs

Network Associates Inc. made a number of moves in its executive ranks Monday, including the appointment of the head of the company's McAfee division, Gene Hodges, to the position of Network Associates president.

Steve Richards, the company's chief financial officer, also expanded his duties to include the title of chief operations officer, the company said in a press release.

Hodges has been a Network Associates (NAI) employee since 1995 and has recently been in charge of the McAfee division of the company, which has offered such products as the WebShield antivirus appliances and some of the company's Web services.

The moves come as NAI continues efforts to right its financial ship. The company has posted a series of losses in recent quarters, most recently losing US$11.3 million for the third quarter of 2001, which led to the announcement that the company would shed products and jobs.

Hodges will be replaced at the helm of McAfee by Art Martin, who comes to NAI from CrossWorlds Software Inc., a maker of business integration products. Martin worked at IBM Corp. for 20 years prior to his stint at CrossWorlds, NAI said.
