The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

News editor Sandra Rossi collects and distills the good and bad news from the industry's tipsters who join the exclusive owners of a GBU mug.

Westpac has denied claims mortgage processing has been delayed by IT glitches at its Adelaide operations centre. The processing was outsourced to EDS in September under a $1 billion deal. Responding to a GBU question about complaints by mortgage brokers about delays, a Westpac media spokesperson accused GBU of "listening to loonies with an axe to grind" and to "disgruntled staff". EDS was a little more forthcoming, admitting the huge contract is still in its early stages so there may be initial teething problems . All "loonies with axes" who work at the centre please contact GBU immediately.

Good

Tis the silly season, to be sure, as a photo (we're pretty sure it's not official) of a SunFire Server depicted. The photo shows additiions to the hardware of beverage dispenser taps of the sort frequently seen in hotel bars. (CW December 10, page 4). But would it gain a larger share of the Unix market?

Bad

The definition of bad luck is sitting in Afghanistan holding your return ticket with Ansett, your travel insurance through HIH and trying to call out on a One.Tel mobile...

Ugly

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is spreading xmas cheer warning hundreds of Australians are admitted to casualty each year suffering injuries from attempting to open bottles of beer with teeth or eye sockets. Stay safe.
