Trend Micro Revamps Entire Product Line With 'Titanium'

Trend Micro's new "Titanium" product line will use cloud computing techniques with the goal of detecting malware more quickly

Following up Norton's new product launch early Wednesday, Trend Micro announced an overhaul of its entire home user product line on Wednesday, under the moniker "Titanium." The new products, Titanium Internet Security, Titanium Maximum Security, and Titanium Antivirus+, include new features that use cloud computing for malware detection.

Malware changes quickly these days--Trend Micro notes that the average piece of malware stays in circulation for only about three days (and in some cases, it lasts only 15 minutes before a new variant comes along). Trend Micro's decision to move to the cloud is based on the idea of catching malware before it gets to your PC.

Trend Micro uses a reputation database on its servers to identify whether or not a file is safe based on various factors. The company claims that this shift to Internet-based detection should reduce its product line's impact on your PC's performance. The real test, of course, will be when we have a chance to try out Titanium for ourselves.

Trend Micro's new Titanium product line is available now through its Website. Prices start at $40 for Titanium Antivirus+, $50 for Titanium Internet Security, and $60 for Titanium Maximum Security.
