Griffith University to replace internet access service

University plans for future student growth

Griffith University in Brisbane is looking for a supplier to help it replace an aging NetCheck internet access service (IAS).

According to tender documents, it is one of Australia’s fastest-growing universities, with 35,000 students. The university expects student numbers to increase to 40,000 by 2013.

The new IAS is needed to provide students, researchers and business units with an appropriate level of internet access.

This system will be installed across three of the university’s campuses in South Bank, Nathan and the Gold Coast. It is looking at scalable offerings that meet its business requirements for the next eight years.

The IAS, commonly referred to as a NetCheck application, was implemented nine years ago and is a system that manages internet usage for staff and students.

Students are represented as pre-paid users of NetCheck and allocated an internet quota at the beginning of each semester which is based on their course load.

Tender documents also state that recent increases in internet use requires replacing of the existing IAS model.

A supplier will need to provide core function to manage and control demand of client internet usage via the use of a periodic quota and bandwidth allocation.

The tender includes replacement of existing hardware infrastructure and the integration of an appropriate internet access provisioning and billing software.

The deadline for replies is 25 October, 2010. rtnid:361617|when IT governance goes wrong]])
