In brief: Data warehouse redevelopment underway for TransGrid

Internal hosting planned

TransGrid, the operator of NSW's $3.7 billion high voltage transmission network, is planning a major data warehouse redevelopment.

According to agency documents, the project will involve the redevelopment of its existing data warehouse using Microsoft technologies.

"TransGrid will be responsible for delivering the necessary communications infrastructure, server infrastructure and software platform, as well as provide the technical staff to support the data warehouse," the documents read.

The project includes the migration of data belonging to core applications, such as finance, asset management, supply, and HR migrated to the new warehouse.

It is also the first stage of a multi-stage project which includes business process re-engineering, organisational change management, server infrastructure provisioning and installation of security software in the server infrastructure.

The scope of the work includes review and validation of the proposed technical architecture, installation and configuration of the Microsoft technology stack to develop and test production environments.

Suppliers will need to develop extract, transform and load (ETL) processes using Oracle and SQL server databases, and handover production support of the application to the TransGrid team.

They will also have to develop a KPI dashboard in TransGrid's SharePoint 2010 environment.
