Bookings for World IT Congress booming

Bookings to attend the 2002 World IT Congress in Adelaide are booming, despite the September 11 terrorist attacks and global economic slump.

With only 10 weeks to go Congress registration is actually ahead of the previous two events which were held in Taipei and the US.

It is the first time the event has been held in Australia and Congress CEO John Gygar said there could be more than the 1500 delegates anticipated by the time it is held from February 27 to March 1.

Gygar said interest has been particularly strong in Europe and the US but there are also bookings from places such as Ghana and Mexico.

Heading the line-up of speakers at the event is former US President Bill Clinton.

Earlier today BBC World agreed to be a major sponsor of the event which means it will be beamed to a global audience of 180 million people.
