NetComm plugs first DC-HSPA+ router

Broadband technology company NetComm (ASX:NTC) has developed what it says is the world's first DC-HSPA+ router, and revealed it will be ready to fulfil the LTE requirements of its customers

Broadband technology vendor NetComm (ASX:NTC) has developed what it says is the world's first 42Mbps DC-HSPA+ router.

The company demonstrated the router at the GITEX technology week demonstration in Dubai last month, achieving downlink speeds of 40.7Mbps.

“This launch follows from our introduction of one of the world's first 21Mbps HSPA routers to hit the global market last year,” NetComm managing director, David Stewart, said.

He said the company is prepared for the global rollout of LTE networks, announcing its LTE products will be ready for launch in line with its carrier customers' network upgrades.

NetComm partners including Telstra, Egypt's Etisalat, Saudi Telecom, Canada's Rogers Wireless and Telecom New Zealand have all committed to LTE.

LTE - Long Term Evolution - is a mobile transmission standard developed by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) collaboration. It is pegged to replace HSPA as the new global standard.

Around 156 operators in 64 countries are currently investing in the technology, resulting in 113 network commitments so far, Stewart said. He estimates that at least 55 LTE networks will be live worldwide by the end of 2012.

DC-HSPA+ (Dual-Carrier HSPA+) is an evolution of the High Speed Packet Access family of mobile broadband transmission technologies.

NTC shares fell 2.5 per cent to $0.195 in Friday's trading following the announcement.
