New community for testing professionals launched

Defectives to provide online support and social activities

Popular legend about software testers has it that they sit in the basement and don't come out in the daylight but one software testing consultancy is looking to turn that misconception on its head.

ROQ IT has a launched a community for the unsung heroes of software development. Defectives, will not only be operated online but will also include live social events for software testers to meet face to face and participate in team events.

Defectives, will enable software testers to share experiences, exchange tips said ROQ IT's founding director Stephen Johnson. "We are keen to keep raising the profile of testing within the IT world and also to get skilled professionals within the domain to share their knowledge and experience. We recognised that there is an opportunity for a specialist company like ours to provide a platform for the testing community to get together," he added.

The company recognises that the profession has not lent itself to much socialising. Toby Sinclair, a consultant at ROQ IT, said, "As a passionate testing professional, I feel there is a real need for this type of community. There is very little opportunity to meet other testing people outside of the workplace, yet there is so much to gain by sharing ideas and experiences. We are confident that the events provide a great opportunity for everyone - at whatever level of their career

The next event will be held in Warrington on 15 February.
