Macquarie Telecom pens $1.2m deal with BMC software

The telco and hosting provider hopes to automate IT processes and cut costs across its data centres

Australian telecommunications and hosting provider, Macquarie Telecom, has penned a $1.2 million deal with BMC Software in an effort to automate IT processes and cut costs across its data centres.

Under the partnership, Macquarie Telecom will use BMC’s BladeLogic Server Automation Suite, BladeLogic Network Automation and Atrium Orchestrator solutions to help manage thousands of servers and network devices, each responsible for mission-critical applications.

Macquarie Telecom general manager of hosting operations, James Mystakidis, said BMC’s BladeLogic server automation will help the telco increase IT productivity as well as deliver high-quality automated services to customers.

“BMC gives assurance that our systems will be secure and allows us to better allocate IT resources and ultimately improve service delivery,” Mystakidis said in a statement.

According to Mystakidis, by automating its server and network environment, the company will protect its data by ensuring servers meet regulatory, operational and security compliance.

“By investing in IT automation, Macquarie Telecom will see major productivity and compliance management benefits very quickly,” BMC’s country manager for A/NZ, Gary Mitchell, said. “That is vital in today’s business environment.”

As reported by Computerworld Australia>/i>, the telco’s data centres withstood any negative effects of Sydney’s recent heatwave during which temperatures soared to 40 degrees Celcius.

Additionally, the company has jumped on the infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) bandwagon, claiming its Cloud offering is better than those from Telstra and Optus, as it offers a locally-managed enterprise Cloud.
