Mobile phone giant Nokia took the wraps off three new mobile phones, including one outfitted for multimedia communication, as well as three Bluetooth wireless network devices at the Mobile Internet Conference in Barcelona Monday.
Nokia announced one new phone for each of three categories: active, classic and the new imaging mobile phones.
The Nokia 7650 phone, the first in the imaging category, sports a built-in digital camera, a photo album, a color display, GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and support for multimedia messaging (MMS), the company said in a news release. The digital camera and support for MMS allows users to take photos, send photos by e-mail and to combine audio, graphics and text into messages, Nokia said. The 7650 is a EGSM (Extended Global System for Mobile communication) phone and measures 114 millimeters tall by 56 millimeters wide by 26 millimeters thick and weighs 154 grams. The phone will be available in Europe, Africa and Asia and will begin shipping in the second quarter of 2002. Pricing information was not immediately available.
The second new phone of the day, the 5210, fits into the active category and offers a built-in thermometer and clock, WAP (Wireless Access Protocol), and the Xpress-on removable faceplate shell. The EGSM phone will ship in the first quarter of 2002 in Europe, Africa and Asia. The 5210 is 105.5 millimeters by 47.5 millimeters by 22.5 millimeters and tips the scales at 92 grams. Pricing was not announced.
The Nokia 6510 phone, part of the classic category, was the last phone announced Monday and offers such features as a mobile wallet, an FM radio tuner, WAP and GPRS. The 6510 also features the Xpress-on covers in five colors and weighs 84 grams. The phone measures 97 millimeters by 43 millimeters by 20 millimeters. The phone will ship in Europe, Africa and Asia in the first quarter of 2002. No pricing terms were available.
Nokia also announced three devices that use the Bluetooth wireless personal area networking protocol. The company will ship the Nokia Wireless Headset, the Nokia Wireless Car Kit and the Nokia Connectivity Card to European and Asian customers in the first quarter of 2001. All three devices employ the Bluetooth 1.1 specification. Prices were not immediately provided.
