Telstra power fault takes out Australia Post contact centre phones

Phones restored after 45 minutes

Customers trying to contact Australia Post's call centre in Melbourne had a long wait on Wednesday due to a Telstra (ASX: TLS) uninterruptible power supply (UPS) failure.

Australia Post let customers know via social networking site Twitter with a message that said "our contact centre phones are currently down, very sorry for this, working hard to get back up."

A spokeswoman for the company said the outage happened at 11 am (AEDT) and lasted for 45 minutes.

"There was a message left on our system to let callers know and customers did have a longer wait time but thankfully it wasn't for too long," she said.

A Telstra spokesman said in a statement that it was standard policy not to comment on matters pertaining to corporate customers.

He would not say if it any other customers in Victoria were affected.
