In brief: NextDC nabs RP Data director for board

Ted Pretty hired to help company target corporate and government customers

Data centre operator NextDC (ASX: NXT) has plans to expand its board next month with the appointment of current RP Data (ASX: RPX) non-executive director, Ted Pretty, as executive deputy chairman.

NextDC chairman, Roger Clarke, said in a statement that Pretty was hired for the newly created role due to his entrepreneurial skills and connections with senior corporate and government executives.

He is also a current group chief executive officer at Gulf Finance House in the Middle East.

Pretty was previously a chairman of Fujitsu Australia and also worked as a group managing director for the retail, consumer and marketing divisions of Telstra (ASX: TLS). He also worked as a partner at media and telecommunications law firm, Gilbert and Tobin.

The announcement came as NextDC received development approval for its Melbourne data centre called M1 which is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.

Another data centre is slated to be unveiled in Sydney this month.
