Melbourne-based IT services provider, Interactive, has planned for more cloud services by spending an additional $10 million on its $40 million data centre complex at Port Park, Melbourne.
According to the company, demand by customers for space at the two-year old centre exceeded supply. Managing director, Christopher Ride, said in a statement that this demand meant the expansion was fast tracked by 12 months.
“The data centre expansion offers more rack space, additional redundancy, and additional operational flight decks which give IT teams excellent functional work environments, while still retaining the high level of security required,” he said.
“While wanting to take advantage of the cost savings and operational efficiencies offered by the cloud, our customers are concerned about security."
One data centre is under construction in Sydney and due for completion in March 2012.
A spokeswoman for Interactive said the company does not release data centre customer names for confidentiality purposes. However, she said there are 151 customers in total in the Port Park complex.
Interactive also provides storage in the cloud based on NetApp technology, and according to Ride was the first Australian company to be selected for the vendor’s partner program for service providers.
