Mnet launches mobile app on Ovi store

Mobile marketing and content group Mnet (ASX:MNZ) has launched a Symbian S60-based mobile app, providing information on the TeamVodafone racing team, on the Nokia Ovi store

Mobile marketing and content company, Mnet Group (ASX:MNZ), has launched a new mobile app, TeamVodafone, on Nokia's Ovi store.

The app has been designed to give fans updates and team news and information about the TeamVodafone V8 supercars team.

It will also include a live Twitter feed and a built-in merchandise store, although the actual transactions will be conducted through the website.

The app was designed using Web Runtime, an application framework for creating widgets on the S60 software platform for the Symbian OS.

The platform is based on the S60 Web Kit browser, which allows multiple browser instances to be launched as separate JavaScript applications.

As well as Nokia's platforms, Mnet also develops for Android, iOS, Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry.

Mnet last month announced it had arranged to sell subsidiary Ring Back Tones Australia to RealNetworks in a deal worth up to $3.6 million.

Nokia just this week revealed it would phase out the Ovi brand for its mobile services, which will instead soon use the more well-known Nokia brand.

The company also recently outsourced its Symbian software activities to Accenture, as it shifts its focus towards Microsoft's Windows Phone platform.

MNZ shares grew 10 per cent in Thursday's trading at $0.055.
