Former Google CIO to speak at local IT expo

Now runs an online money lending service

Former Google CIO, Douglas C Merrill, will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming CA World Expo events in Sydney and Melbourne.

During his time as Google CIO, Merrill managed a team of 1500 people and helped spearhead Google’s effort to “organise the world’s information”, according to the CA World Expo organisers.

CIO interviewed Merrill in 2007 about security and what it's like to run IT at Google.

Merrill left Google in early 2008 to join EMI and is now the CEO and co-founder of ZestCash.com.

At Google, Merrill was succeeded by Ben Fried, who was profiled by CIO in January.

Vice president of CA Technologies Australia and New Zealand, Brenton Smith, said he is “very pleased” to announce Merrill's attendance.

“We’ve secured one of the world’s most provocative and sought-after IT thinkers to lead the line-up at CA World Expo '11,” Smith said.

Attendees will get a chance to view his take on what today’s IT leaders must do to deliver Google-like response to real-time customer expectations, according to Smith.

“[It] will set the stage for one very packed and productive day.”

The Sydney CA World Expo '11 is at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre on Monday, July 25 and The Melbourne CA World Expo '11 is at Crown Towers, Melbourne on Wednesday, July 27.
