Asus' has brought its Eee Pad Transformer, a touchscreen Android tablet with a keyboard-equipped docking station, to Australia. The Asus Eee Pad Transformer will be available from tomorrow with a recommended retail price of $599.
The docking station transforms the tablet into something akin to a conventional notebook, adding a QWERTY keyboard, USB ports and an SD card slot. Asus says it can extend the tablet's battery life by up to 16 hours.
The Eee Pad Transformer runs version 3.0 ('Honeycomb') of Google's Android OS. It's equipped with a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, which has a resolution of 1280x800-pixels. The popular Apple iPad 2 uses a 9.7-inch touchscreen.
Asus' tablet is powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 2 processor and 1GB of RAM. It offers both rear and front cameras, as well as a mini-HDMI out port for connection to external screens.
Earlier this month Telstra launched Motorola's Xoom Android tablet. Like the Eee Pad Transformer, the Xoom is a 10.1-inch tablet.
