NBN Co has confirmed to Computerworld Australia that Microsoft Australia's chief security advisor, Stuart Strathdee, is joining the NBN Co's Information Security Office and also hinted that more security hires would be made in the future.
A spokesperson said that Strathdee would be starting with the company on 14 June but would not say what his job title was.
"He is one of a number of appointments we are making to this area as we increase the security resourcing," she wrote.
NBN Co may be in a hiring mode due to the new opportunities the National Broadband Network (NBN) could offer cybercriminals. iWebGate's managing director, Tim Gooch, told delegates at CeBIT in Sydney that the NBN could be a cybercriminal's best friend, offering the ability to take down companies who have yet to invest in network security and publish network services to the Internet.
According to Strathdee's Linkedin profile, he had been with Microsoft since September 2000 and worked in a variety of security roles including Asia Pacific regional security program manager and strategic security advisor.
