McAfee adds users, competitor to EPolicy Orchestrator

McAfee, a division of Network Associates, announced a new version of its ePolicy Orchestrator antivirus management product, boosting the number of desktop machines and products it can administer.

EPolicy Orchestrator (ePO) is an enterprise antivirus and security management tool that allows administrators to deploy and update antivirus software remotely, to monitor and set security policies on antivirus products and to receive alerts and reports that have information on the entire network.

The upgrade to ePO, version 2.5, allows IT administrators to not only manage McAfee desktop antivirus products, but also adds support for Symantec Corp. desktop and server antivirus tools, McAfee said it a statement. EPO 2.5 also offers management support for up to 250,000 desktop systems from a single console on a single server, the company said. The previous version supported up to 100,000 systems.

IT managers are able to maintain corporate antivirus policy by using the program to push software updates to remote and network uses, the company said. The combination of this feature and the built-in alert system that can send virus outbreak warnings by e-mail, pager or other devices, can help companies fight the spread of viruses, McAfee said.
