Adobe unveils CreatePDF app for iPad

App to create equality across mobile market, variety of devices

Adobe has put its rocky relationship with Apple aside, announcing it has launched the Adobe CreatePDF application for the iPad.

Speaking at a media briefing in Sydney, Adobe System’s director of solution consulting for the Asia Pacific region, Mark Szulc, said the move was intended to create equality across the mobile market.

After some 10 million downloads of its Reader app for Android, Szulc said providing a range of access options was important for the company to move forward.

“Being a creator of a PDF should mean that you shouldn’t have to worry about what platform your counterparts are opening a PDF on, and we’ve taken the same approach towards the mobile market.”

Adobe has partnered with Microsoft and Google on PDF security, with Acrobat’s business manager for the Australia and New Zealand region, Richard Barrie, saying that such partnerships have been vital to securing content for its users.

“Even though we are strange bed fellows, Adobe, Microsoft and Google, cooperated on Protected View, which came out with Acrobat 10,” Barrie said.

“It opens up in its own protected space so if there are some bad things in those documents, they wont filter out.”

Other security features introduced by Adobe include its digital signature function, bolstered by its acquisition of EcoSign last month.

“We do have some Acrobat services where you can subscribe to Acrobat but when it comes to work flow, a lot of people are trying to make things paperless and have a digital signature,” he said.

“...With signatures, its the wave of the pen and the fastness of the strokes that determine if its a fake signature... EcoSign as of last month is a part of what we are doing.”
